Data Retention Policy
Last updated: July 28, 2026
This page explains, at a general level, how long ContractorsFinder intends to keep different categories of information and how deletion works.
General principle
We aim to keep personal information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected for, plus any additional period required by law, fraud-prevention needs, or legitimate recordkeeping (such as resolving a complaint).
Retention by data category
- Quote request / project planner submissions: Retained for a limited period after submission to allow contractor follow-up and homeowner support, then deleted or anonymized unless needed for an open complaint or legal requirement.
- Account information (homeowner or contractor login): Retained while the account is active, and for a limited period after closure to allow reactivation and meet recordkeeping obligations, then deleted or anonymized.
- Complaint and dispute records: Retained longer than routine submissions, since they may be relevant to a contractor's ongoing standing under our Vetting & Verification Policy Or to a legal claim.
- Analytics data: Typically retained in aggregate or de-identified form after an initial period; see our Analytics & Advertising Disclosure Page.
- Server and security logs: Retained for a limited operational period sufficient for security monitoring and incident investigation, then deleted or rotated.
Deletion requests
You can ask us to delete personal information we hold about you, subject to exceptions where retention is required (for example, an open dispute, a legal obligation, or fraud prevention). Submit a deletion request through our Contact page. Note that deleting information from ContractorsFinder's systems does not delete copies a matched contractor may have already received directly, as explained in Lead Distribution & Disclosure.
