How Contractors Are Evaluated
The standards ContractorsFinder uses to organize contractor profiles, verification signals, homeowner feedback, and marketplace disclosures.
Evaluation framework
- Business identity: legal business name and operating status where data is available.
- Licensing: license information is displayed only when it can be checked against an authoritative source.
- Insurance: insurance indicators require current documentation and expiration tracking.
- Experience and scope: service claims should match documented project experience.
- Homeowner feedback: reviews must come from genuine interactions and remain subject to moderation.
- Conduct: complaints, misrepresentation, and repeated policy violations may affect marketplace eligibility.
What verification does not mean
A badge is not a guarantee of price, workmanship, availability, or outcome. Homeowners should compare written estimates, confirm current credentials, and use a written contract. This page covers ongoing ranking signals for already-listed profiles; for the onboarding identity, license, and insurance checks a business must pass before being listed at all, see our Contractor Vetting & Verification Policy.
No paid ranking without disclosure
Sponsored placement, when introduced, must be clearly labeled and separated from organic matching criteria. See How Contractor Matching Works for how paid participation affects lead matching.
